Character: Nanase Haruka
Series: Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
Character Age: 17
Canon: Welcome to the world of aquatics and boys who love to swim. As children, the friendship between Nanase Haruka, Tachibana Makoto, Hazuki Nagisa and Matsuoka Rin was formed. In the time spent preparing for a tournament, they forged an inseparable bond and lasting memories. Ultimately, their hard work paid off and they won. These memories are what bring three out of four of them back together when they enter high school. And, wanting to reclaim their fourth member, they decide to create a swim team at Iwatobi High School so they can reunite with their missing member who swims at a rival school. And that’s when the story really begins.

One of the members of the Iwatobi High School Swim Club is Nanase Haruka. He loves water so much that he wears swimwear underneath his clothes at all times just in case there's a chance to swim or be in water. Besides that, he's a very quiet, reserved person who finds it hard to show emotions beyond a default solemn face, especially to people he doesn't know. This, however, does not mean that he doesn't feel things. In fact, he's the type of person that has very strong emotions, but is often at a loss as to how to convey them. Which is why, when he accidentally hurts his friend's feelings after he beats him in a swimming race, he quits swimming competitively altogether. Despite that, he has a very matter of fact way of thinking and tends to think more than he speaks. His trademark and favorite way of swimming is freestyle and he won’t hesitate to tell you that. And while he doesn’t like to exert effort over things he finds unnecessary, he can be very determined about the things that matter to him.

Sample Post:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
My name is Nanase Haruka. I like mackerel and I’m a second-year in Iwatobi High School as well as the vice-captain of the Iwatobi High School Swim Club. My preferred style of swimming is freestyle.

Why are you joining our happy community? I'm not sure what you mean by community. Or even if I want to be a part of it. The friends I have right now are already enough for me. I don’t feel that it’s necessary to go beyond that. But, honestly, I only came to this camp because I was told there was a swimming pool here that's open 24 hours, every day of the week.

What do you expect from your camp experience? I don't really care as long as I can swim. I’m not interested in helping with things around camp. Unless it’s something swimming related, it wouldn’t really be worth my time or effort. I’ve already said I only came here to swim in a pool whenever I want, anyway.

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why? Why are you asking a second-year high school student that? Isn't that what policemen, firefighters and doctors are for?

What if the crisis involved the end of the world? Please explain. I don’t see the point of explaining, but if the world was ending, I don't think you should rely on what I would or wouldn't do. I’m only one person and it's better to call the police or ask an adult for that kind of help.

Can you swim? Y/N I’ve already said it before, but I only swim free.
- Could you still do it under extreme distress? Y/N I'm capable of swimming in any type of situation because I understand the nature of water.
-- While dragging someone else to shore? Y/N I've done it before. I won’t tell you who I saved and why it happened because that’s none of your business.
--- While something, let’s say a tentacle, tries to drag you under? Y/N . . . excuse me?
---- How would you handle that situation? I don't think that kind of situation would happen outside of a movie so I don't feel as if I have to answer this question seriously or even at all.

Have you committed any crimes you were or should have been convicted from? No, not that I can recall. But my friends always seem to get upset when I strip down to my swimwear whenever I’m close to a body of water. And I do get weird looks when I do it in a place like the pet store or the museum.

Are you lying on your previous answer? What would be the point of lying about something like that? In my opinion, that would be too much effort.

If you could get away with committing one crime and suffer absolutely no consequences, what would you do and why? I’ve never thought about it before, honestly. And if I did then why would I tell anyone what I would do? That makes no sense. I think this interview is done now. Thank you for your time and goodbye.
